More Information

The Brahma Temple in Pushkar, Rajasthan, is one of the most sacred and unique temples in India, as it is dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. Located near the holy Pushkar Lake, this temple holds immense religious and historical significance.

Historical and Mythological Significance

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma performed a yajna (sacred ritual) at Pushkar. His wife, Goddess Saraswati, was delayed in joining the ritual, so Brahma married a local girl, Gayatri, to complete the ceremony. Angered by this, Saraswati cursed Brahma, declaring that he would not be widely worshipped. As a result, the Brahma Temple in Pushkar is one of the very few temples in the world dedicated to him.

Architectural Beauty

Built in the 14th century, the temple showcases stunning Rajasthani architecture. Constructed mainly of marble and stone, it features a distinctive red spire (shikhara) and a silver turtle at its entrance. The temple’s sanctum houses a four-faced idol of Lord Brahma, made of marble, with his consort, Goddess Gayatri, by his side.

Religious Significance

Pushkar is one of the five sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The temple attracts thousands of devotees, especially during Kartik Purnima, when the grand Pushkar Camel Fair takes place. Pilgrims take a holy dip in Pushkar Lake before offering prayers at the temple, believing it washes away sins and brings blessings.

Visiting Information

The Brahma Temple is located in the heart of Pushkar and is open to visitors daily from early morning to evening. Photography inside the sanctum is not allowed, maintaining its spiritual sanctity.
